Tuktoyaktuk is accessible year round by planes that land at the James Gruben airport or float planes that land in the protected harbor.

In the summer months visitors travel by charter boats, private sailboats and by canoe or kayaks which travel down the Mackenzie River and in winter by the ice road from Inuvik.

During the 1960s the concept of an all-weather road between Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk becomes a priority goal among residents of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. Nearly 57 years later in the fall of 2017 this concept will become a reality as this highway will connect Canada from coast to coast to coast allowing full season access in and out of our community.
